The police have arrested three people suspected of involvement in the brutal murder of a Telangana businessman. This arrest took place about three weeks after a charred body was found on October 8 in Suntikoppa area of Kodagu district, which led to a thorough investigation that eventually led to the arrest of three suspects.
According to the police, the main suspect, Niharika, 29, from Telangana, is accused of planning the murder of a businessman, identified as Ramesh, 54. Niharika is said to have killed the businessman he was married to in order to get money.
Police reports revealed that despite being married to Ramesh, Niharika entered into a relationship with a veterinarian, Nikhil. He conspired with Nikhil and another colleague, Ankur, from Haryana to kill Ramesh.
Together, the trio allegedly planned and executed Ramesh’s murder to seize his property and wealth.
The investigation began with the discovery of a burnt body in a tea estate near Suntikoppa. The Kodagu police had a big challenge as there was little evidence due to the extent of the damage to the body.
Superintendent of police in Kodagu, Ramarajan, reported that the vigilance efforts soon yielded a clue. According to him, the full monitoring of 500 CCTV cameras in many places, helped the investigators to track down the suspects, when the video showed a suspicious red Benz near the scene of the incident.
Ramarajan said: “The case was difficult as the body was completely burnt, leaving no evidence at the scene of the incident. However, the extensive efforts of our surveillance team eventually led to the arrest of those involved.”
According to the police, Ramesh was strangled near Hyderabad before the suspects drove his car to his house, where they allegedly stole money and sensitive documents. The suspects then drove to Bengaluru, bought petrol and took the body to Kodagu where they burnt it in an attempt to destroy the evidence.
The Kodagu police, in collaboration with the authorities in all the districts, acted quickly and the suspects were arrested.
Further investigations are ongoing, as police continue to gather evidence regarding the motive and specific details of the crime.
