Burglar falls into first pipe in Balewadi, hospital: police | Pune news

The thief fell from the first floor of a posh residence in Balewadi area while trying to steal in the early hours of Thursday. The locals caught him and handed him over to the Pune city police.

The police said that the accused Bappa Sarkar (32) was admitted to the hospital for treatment. A fire has been registered in this case at the Baner police station.

Sarkar, a resident of Mumbai, came to Pune to steal, police said, and entered the Aeon community in Balewadi around 4 am on Thursday. He climbed the pipe to reach the gallery of the apartment on the first floor. But, when he tried to enter the apartment, the residents woke up when they heard a noise. When they tried to catch the burglar, he tried to escape by going down the same pipe, but fell from a distance of about 20 meters.

Soon the security guard and other residents of the building caught the thief. A team of Baner police reached the spot and took the criminal into custody.

The police officer said, “The criminal was injured and admitted to the hospital.” He has not been arrested.” Investigations are underway to find out if the suspect has committed many crimes in the past, said the police.
