The Border Security Force (BSF) has successfully foiled an illegal entry attempt and deported 24 Bangladeshis and two Rohingyas who were trying to cross into India. The operation took place on January 12 in the districts of North 24 Parganas, Nadia, and Malda.
The BSF’s surveillance led to the entry of several infiltrators, and 20 Bangladeshis and two Rohingyas were forced to return to Bangladesh from the North 24 Parganas district.
Additionally, 4 other Bangladeshis were sent back to Nadia district. According to the BSF, most of the infiltrators were heading to major Indian cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad to work as housekeepers.
On the same day, BSF jawans also successfully foiled a major smuggling attempt in the district. On being tipped off, BSF personnel on board the nakas were put on high alert.
They saw a suspected smuggler walking fast towards the river carrying a polythene bag. When he challenged the smuggler, he dropped the bag and ran into the dense vegetation nearby.
The BSF then recovered the bag, which contained two boxes full of illegal drugs. Overall, 565 bottles of Phensedylthree kilograms of ganja, 2,900 quinine sulfate tablets, and 700 quinine dihydrochloride injections were seized.
In a separate operation on the same day, BSF personnel at Mahdipur, Gopalnagar, Sabdalpur, and Nawada border areas, all part of the 119th Battalion, seized 565 bottles of Phensedyl from their premises.
Meanwhile, the dogs of the 88th Battalion at Border Outpost Pannapur rescued eight cows from smugglers, while the personnel of the 115th Battalion rescued three cows.
The BSF has handed over the seized drugs to the concerned authorities for further legal action, and the rescued cattle will be tagged before being handed over to the Dhyan Foundation for safekeeping.
The South Bengal Frontier Public Relations Officer confirmed that the BSF is using strict measures to prevent smuggling and illegal entry along the India-Bangladesh border, assuring that such efforts will be met with swift and decisive action.
