The civic body said that a 900 mm valve of the Vaitarna water supply system in Tarali (Thane District) had collapsed, necessitating the partial shutdown of the water supply system.
On Wednesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) announced a 5-10 percent water cut in Mumbai from October 17 to October 18 citing a valve problem in the Thane district pipeline.
The civic body said a collapse occurred in the 900 mm valve of the Vaitarna water pipeline system in Tarali (Thane District), necessitating the partial shutdown of the water supply system.
As a result, there has been a 5% to 10% reduction in water supply at the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to Greater Mumbai. As a result, there will be a 5% to 10% water cut across Mumbai from Thursday, 17 October, to Friday, 18 October.
The BMC added that immediate steps have been taken to rectify the malfunction, and for this reason, it is necessary to partially shut down the water transport system. As a result, there will be a 5% to 10% reduction in water supply to the Bhandup Water Treatment Plant, which supplies water to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation area (Mumbai city and suburbs).
Repair work is expected to take approximately 48 hours.
“Citizens are requested to save enough water and use it wisely. The management of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation appeals to all citizens to cooperate in conserving water during this time,” said the statement.
