Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket, the New Glenn, successfully lifted off from Florida early Thursday after its first launch attempt was aborted on Wednesday.
This flight is Bezos’ attempt to enter the private space race. A successful launch could open competition to Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
New Glenn began its first ascent to the stars on Thursday morning and Blue Origin, said the main purpose of the first flight, was just to get into orbit.

“To emphasize our goals—this is our first flight, and we’ve prepared for it rigorously. But there’s no amount of ground testing or mission simulation that can take the place of flying this rocket,” Blue Origin said of X.

“Our primary goal today is to reach orbit safely. Anything beyond that is icing on the cake. We know that landing a booster on our first attempt on the Atlantic coast is ambitious—but we’re going. No matter what happens, we’ll ‘Learn, adjust, and use that information in our next presentation,” he said.
