The BJP on Tuesday (January 14, 2025) nominated Chandrabhan Paswan as its candidate for the assembly election from Uttar Pradesh’s Milkipur constituency in Ayodhya district which is scheduled to be held next month.
The Samajwadi Party has fielded Faizabad MP Awadhesh Prasad’s son Ajit Prasad for the post. Awadhesh Prasad was the Member of Parliament from Milkipur before he was elected to the Lok Sabha which required a vote.

The Congress decided not to field a candidate and instead supported the nominee of the Samajwadi Party (SP), which is part of the INDIA bloc.
The bypoll is scheduled for February 5 and the votes will be counted on February 8.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has often used his party’s victory in Milkipur in the 2022 Assembly elections to take potshots at the Yogi Adityanath government and the BJP, accusing them of poor recruitment and divisive politics.
In the run-up to the bypoll, the BJP has fielded six ministers in the campaign led by Mr Adityanath, who has been on a series of visits to Ayodhya recently.
On the other hand, Akhilesh Yadav asked his party leaders and workers to ensure victory in the Milkipur assembly seat, which he called “important for saving democracy”.
