Prison authorities in Nigeria have announced that imprisoned Binance CEO Tigran Gambaryan is ‘seriously ill’, preventing him from appearing in court again for his trial.
This is a major concern raised by his wife about two months ago, saying that Gambaryan’s health condition has worsened since his arrest in April.
Binance Exec Exam Reset to October 25th
The trial of embattled Binance CEO Gambaryan was postponed again after he failed to appear in court due to his health condition.
His trial was scheduled for last October 18. Binance’s CEO is an American citizen and was unable to attend because he was ill. Judge Emeka Nwite adjourned the trial for Gambaryan to receive medical treatment.
Nwite scheduled his trial for October 25, which gave him enough time to get medical help.

The judge also ordered the rehabilitation center in Nigeria to bring Gambaryan to a general hospital for treatment for up to two weeks but to be under security guard while he was being treated.
Gambaryan has been in the custody of Nigerian authorities since February. He is charged with money laundering of $35 million.

The Declining Life of a Binance Exec
In August, Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki, told the court that her husband’s health had deteriorated significantly since his arrest in April.
She said her husband’s health deteriorated significantly while he was incarcerated, adding that his deteriorating condition could cause irreparable damage, which affected his husband’s mobility.

Gambaryan’s wife appealed to the court for her husband’s temporary release so that his condition does not worsen.
Bail Application Denied
Earlier, Gambaryan requested permission from the Nigerian federal court to allow him to post bail to undergo surgery outside of prison. However, the federal court denied the bail request, for the second time.
The federal court ruled that there was no evidence that the Nigerian Correctional Service was unable to handle Gambaryan’s medical condition.
Gambaryan’s wife expressed disbelief at the decision, saying it was wrong to deny her husband the necessary medical care.
A Binance spokesperson also expressed their disappointment with the court’s decision, as the Nigerian authorities illegally detained Gambarayan for more than 220 days.
Through social media, Binance officials called for Gambaryan’s immediate release citing his deteriorating health.
Binance CEO Richard Teng even accused the Nigerian authorities of asking the crypto exchange to comply with a “confidential” agreement to settle existing legal cases – a charge that Nigerian officials deny, saying it is only a diversion used by Binance.
