A shocking incident involving Bihar’s Saharsa teachers drinking alcohol on a school trip has sparked outrage among students and parents. The incident occurred after the students of Upkramit Mouni Higher Secondary School in Dabauli village, under Patarghat block in Saharsa, returned from a study trip to Bhimnagar Koshi Barrage.
According to allegations made by the students and their parents, a group of teachers who were in charge of around 45 students, were found to be drinking alcohol and fish while the students were enjoying the trip.
When this incident came to light, the Ministry of Education stepped up and issued a notice to the teachers involved.
Talking to Local18, Patarghat Block Education Officer said that they got information about teachers drinking alcohol and misbehaving with students during the trip organized under Bihar Darshan Yojana. The investigation is currently ongoing.
The department is seeking an explanation from nine teachers, including principal Anil Kumar, school teacher Diwakar Kumar, contract teachers Abhay Kumar Jha, Krishna Kumar Shandil, and Rajesh Kumar, school teacher Kshama Devi, contract teacher Khagesh Kumar, Arjun’s school teacher. Kumar Verma, and night watchman Chhotu Nath Jha.
Responding to these allegations, the principal Anil Kumar Jha said that he is aware of teachers who drink alcohol on the bus journey and return from the trip. This led to students and parents expressing their anger and closing the school in protest.
“When I returned from the trip, I found out that some of the teachers who were on the bus had been drinking alcohol, after which the students and their parents started a row,” said Jha.
Speaking to Local18, class nine student Gopal Kumar revealed that the drunken teachers misbehaved and used foul language. He specifically called teacher Diwakar, along with other teachers, as having drunk alcohol on the bus.
“Teacher Diwakar and other teachers drank alcohol on the bus. After returning from the trip, the drunken teachers tried to molest the girl student, and if we objected to them, we were threatened,” added Gopal Kumar.
