President Biden sparked a political firestorm on Tuesday after calling former President Trump’s supporters “scum,” which could spell trouble for many Democrats running for re-election in key states where Trump is popular.
Fox News Digital reached out to five Democratic Senate candidates – Sen. Tammy Baldwin of Wisconsin, Sen of Montana Jon Tester, Sen of Ohio Sherrod Brown, Sen of Nevada Jacky Rosen, Sen of Pennsylvania Bob Casey and Ruben Gallego representing the Senate of Arizona – to comment on Biden’s words.
“Tammy Baldwin does not agree with President Biden,” Andrew Mamo, a spokesman for Tammy Baldwin’s campaign, told Fox News Digital.
“Tammy stands up for all Wisconsinites regardless of who they are or who they voted for.”

A spokesperson for Rosen told Fox News Digital, “Sen. Rosen strongly disagrees with denigrating anyone based on who they vote for. As one of the most diverse and independent senators, he works hard to find common ground across party lines and represent all Nevadans.”
“Jon Tester disagrees with those comments and is proud of the support of Montanans across the political spectrum, including those who voted for Donald Trump,” said Monica Robinson, spokeswoman for Montanans for Tester.

“Sherrod doesn’t agree with that and he stands up for all Ohioans, no matter who they vote for,” Brown campaign spokesman Matt Keyes told Fox News Digital.
“I’m running to represent all Arizonans, no matter who they vote for,” Gallego told Fox News Digital in a statement.
“Sen. Casey respects all Pennsylvanians regardless of how they vote,” Casey campaign spokeswoman Maddy McDaniel told Fox News Digital.
Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin, who is running for Senate in the state of Michigan, spoke out against Biden’s comments.

“He shouldn’t have said it. It’s wrong,” Slotkin said during an appearance on local radio Wednesday morning. “To me, I think that’s the last thing we need in our politics.”
While all the Democrats on Fox News Digital reached out to criticize Biden’s “garbage” comments, others scorned Trump supporters, including Gallego and Brown. Gallego previously called Trump supporters “dumb” and “the worst people in the world.” Brown accused Trump supporters of “racism” and said it “works for them.”
During the campaign for Kamla Harris and Voto Latino, Biden took a swipe at former President Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden, and made headlines after being insulted. comedian Tony Hinchiffe does comedy mocking different races. In one joke, he called Puerto Rico a “floating garbage island.”
“The only garbage I see floating out there are his supporters,” said Biden. “[Trump’s] the demonization of Latinos is irrational, and un-American. “

His comments were quickly compared to Hillary Clinton’s claim that half of Trump’s supporters were part of the “basket of deplorables” in 2016, a comment that was widely seen as undermining her campaign.
The White House tried to clean up Biden’s speech.
White House spokesman Andrew Bates told Fox News anchor Jacqui Heinrich that Biden “referred to the hate speech at the Madison Square Garden rally as ‘garbage.'”
“The president was talking about a joke by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe when he compared Puerto Rico to an island of ‘garbage’ floating in the middle of the ocean,” he said.
“So to be clear, he wasn’t calling Trump supporters trash, that’s why he put this up and that’s why he wants to make sure that we issue a statement that clarifies what he meant and what he was trying to say. So, I want to clarify that for people watching,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters. on Wednesday.

VP Kamala Harris distanced herself from Biden’s comments on Tuesday.
“I think, first of all, he made his comments clear, but let me be clear. I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they voted for,” Harris said.
