Below Deck Down Under‘s Captain Jason Chambers opens up about the latest health scare.

In a video shared via Instagram on Monday, December 16, the television star revealed that a recent biopsy she had confirmed it was melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

“I’m in Australia and it’s done in Bali,” Captain Jason, 52, explained in the video. “Doctors here in Australia are not happy with the indications that told them to go to stage 2, which will be to cut out a large part and check the glands. So I’m waiting for the specimen from Bali, so it will be here this week, but I might not get it until after Christmas.”

The Australian star has urged his countrymen to be more vigilant as the weather heats up over the next few months.

“Two out of three people suffer from melanoma. It’s a big thing. We have a heatwave coming this summer, so make sure you wear a hat,” he said, noting that he used to wear sunscreen but now he has found chemical-free products. “Make sure you put on sunscreen, get some shade and cover up.”

In the text of his post, Captain Jason added, “For someone who spent his life in the sun, as a child playing sports to work at sea, I thought I could not withstand the damaging effects of the sun. “With the diagnosis of melanoma biopsy, now I have an anxious wait and what I thought was a skin discoloration in just 6 months, early detection is the key,” he continued.

The post concluded, “So get a chemical free sunscreen, get some shade with a hat and enjoy the sun safely.”
