“In Assam, we have decided that beef will not be served in any restaurant or hotel and it will not be served in any public function or public place, so from today we have completely decided to stop the consumption of beef in hotels, restaurants and public places,” said the Minister The great one.

The announcement comes days later Sarma criticized the Congress for allegedly spreading beef to win elections in the predominantly Muslim area of ​​Samaguri. The Chief Minister even said that he is ready to ban beef in Assam if state Congress chief Bhupen Kumar Borah writes to him, demanding it.

The consumption of beef is illegal in Assam, but the Assam Cattle Preservation Act of 2021 prohibits the slaughter of cows and the sale of beef in areas where Hindus, Jains and Sikhs are in large numbers and within five kilometers of a temple or satra (A Vaishnavite monastery).
