A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district for allegedly issuing death threats to State Minister Yogi Adityanath on social media. The suspect also threatened Mahakumbh 2025, saying that he will not allow it to happen.
The suspect, identified as Maijan Raza, also spoke inappropriately about the Ram Temple on social media. Later, he was seen apologizing for his social media posts in one of the videos released by the Bareilly police.
“Hindus, your Maha Kumbh is approaching, we will not let it happen,” read one of Raza’s Facebook posts. The Mahakumbh Mela is held in Prayagraj from January 13 to February 26. The Maha Kumbh is one of the largest religious congregations in the world, and around 45 million people are likely to take a dip in the Ganga for spiritual rejuvenation during the event.
After Raza’s social media posts, local VHP leader Pandit KK Shankhdhar appealed to the police to take action against the accused youth.
After receiving a complaint about the social media post, the Bareilly police team conducted an investigation and Raza was arrested on Saturday, January 11.
According to the police, Raza is a resident of Bareilly’s Prem Nagar area and studied in one of the prestigious schools in the city. After Raza’s arrest, the Bareilly Police also released a video of him in which he is seen apologizing for the things he wrote on social media and promising not to write inappropriate comments in the future.
“I will not send anything in the future. I made a mistake. Please forgive me. I will respect everyone, sir…,” Raza can be heard speaking in this video.
Talking about the entire case, Bareilly Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pankaj Kumar said, “In Prem Nagar police station, a case 16/25 has been registered. Maijan Raza alias Faiz, son of Aslam, a resident of Talab. Kla, has committed threatening and illegal statements against another religion, the temple, and the Minister has been charged in connection with this and has been arrested, action is being taken of the relevant law.”
