Hyderabad Member of Parliament and AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Saturday criticized the Uttar Pradesh government for starting the construction of a new police station directly opposite the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal, a place that witnessed deadly violence in November, which resulted in the death of four people.
In a post on X, the Hyderabad MP said the state government has money to “open police posts and bars” instead of schools and hospitals. Owaisi also said that the data shows that a small number of public institutions are provided in Muslim-majority areas.
“A police station is being built in front of the Jama Masjid in Sambhal. Go to any country. The government there does not open schools and hospitals. If something is built, a police station and a bar. The government does that. It has no money for anything else, it only has money for police posts and bars. The data itself says the amount few of the government institutions are given in Muslim areas,” Owaisi said in the post in Hindi.
On November 24, four people were killed and several others were injured, including a security guard violence erupted in Kot Garvi area of ​​Sambhal when some locals clashed with the police during a court-ordered investigation of the Shahi Jama Masjid over the claim that the Harihar temple once existed at the site.
Around 50 people have been arrested in the Sambhal violence under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After the violence, the Uttar Pradesh Polie started the construction of a new police station in the field opposite the Shahi Jama Masjid.
