Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal spoke about the controversy over the Prime Minister’s official residence in Delhi during an appearance Agenda Aaj Takasserting that he has nothing to do with that place. Responding to questions about the alleged luxuries of the bungalow at 6 Flag Staff Road, Kejriwal said he moved out of the house within three days of resigning as Chief Minister and did not associate with him.
“I have nothing to do with that house. After I got out of prison, I resigned from the position of Chief Minister and immediately left the residence. If I had anything to do with that house, I would have stayed there for at least two or three months,” he said, stressing that the house is a government building built by the Public Works Department (PWD). ) works for the Chief Minister of Delhi.
Kejriwal also highlighted his simplicity in housing schemes, recalling his days as an activist when he lived in the slums of Delhi.
“Today, as the National Organizer of my party, I live in a house given to me by the central government. Whatever responsibility God gives me, I live accordingly,” he said closing the ongoing debate about the construction of the house.
The controversy has also been fueled by the BJP, which has accused Kejriwal of misusing public funds to build a luxury residence. BJP Delhi President Virendraa Sachdeva called the bungalow a “7-star resort”, saying it was built for Kejriwal’s comfort.
Sachdeva shared the details of the expenditure mentioned in the communication letter, saying that the public money was spent on luxuries like lighting of the sheba stone worth Rs 1.9 crore, installation and community work worth Rs 1.5 crore, and gym and spa equipment worth Rs 35 lakh. . The total cost, he said, comes to Rs 3.75 crore.
“We were telling you the truth about the glass palace of a self-proclaimed common man. He built himself a 7-star resort by consuming public money,” Sachdeva wrote.
The BJP has been using the issue as a political weapon ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, framing it as a betrayal of Kejriwal’s image as a leader of austerity.
‘ATISHI IS AN INTERIM PRIME MINISTER’
Arvind Kejriwal, during the interview, revealed that he will return as Chief Minister if AAP wins the Delhi Assembly elections, which were to be held in February next year.
He said Atishi was serving as a “temporary” Minister, which means he will take over the top post if his party wins a third term in the national capital.
“When I came out of jail, I was accused that Kejriwal went to jail, Kejriwal is corrupt, Kejriwal did this, the court granted me bail, but the public court is the biggest court. That is why I decided that until the public tells me that I am honest, I will not sit in the seat of the Minister,” he said.
