Andhra Pradesh: Chandrababu Naidu approves double-decker metro for Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam


Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu approved the double-decker metro system project of 66 km in Vijayawada and 76.9 km in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

The Chief Minister said that the funding of the capital municipality will be in line with the provisions of the policy adopted in 2017 and said that the Center will have to pay 100 percent equity in the municipal project.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to complete the necessary discussions regarding funding with the Center and start the railway work in both the cities as soon as possible. He said the officials must ensure that the railway line must start operating in the next four years.

Pointing out that the municipal railway project was clearly proposed to the government even in the State Reorganization Act, the Chief Minister said whether according to the provisions of the Reorganization Act or according to the policy adopted in 2017, the Center will have to extend everything. types of railway assistance in the State. He also said that he will soon hold talks with this institution in this regard.

AP Metro Rail Corporation Limited Managing Director Ramakrishna Reddy made a detailed presentation about the metro rail project.

A decision has been taken to take up the municipal rail project in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam in a double-decker system, especially where the railway has to pass through national and state highways.

In the first phase, this double-decker system in Visakhapatnam will be 15 km from Madhurawada to Thatichetlapalem, and another 4 km from Gajuwaka to Visakha Steel Plant.

Similarly, in Vijayawada, the first phase of the metro will be 4.7 km long from Ramavarappadu Ring Road to Nidamanuru.

Andhra Pradesh Ministers P Narayana, BC Janardhan Reddy, and officials of other concerned departments were present during the meeting.
