Ernst & Young on Wednesday (September 18, 2024) issued a statement after the death of a 26-year-old Chartered Accountant, allegedly due to heavy work pressure at the company, spread on social media and highlighted work-related stress. .

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Anna Sebastian in July 2024,” EY said.

Since his death, EY has been in contact with the family, helping them, but now his family has chosen to write to the company complaining about “a lot of work”.

EY said it will continue to improve and provide a healthy working environment in its offices across the country.

Anna Sebastian Perayil, who passed her CA exams in 2023, worked at the EY Pune office for four months before she passed. His mother this month wrote to EY India chairman Rajiv Memani to raise the alarm about the ‘glorification’ of overworking at the international consultancy.

“Anna was part of the Research team at SR Batliboi, a member firm of EY Global, in Pune for a short period of four months, joining the firm on 18th March 2024. That her promising career was cut short in such a sad way is an irreparable loss for all of us. ,” EY said in a statement.

It went on to say that although there are no measures to compensate the loss suffered by the family, the company has provided all assistance and will continue to do so.

“We take family charters very seriously and with great humility. We place great importance on the well-being of all employees and will continue to find ways to improve and provide a healthy work environment for our 100,000 people across EY member firms in India,” it added.
