Amazon will now use AI to redefine what you’re watching

Have you ever started a show, stopped halfway through the season and struggled to get back into it because you don’t know exactly where you left off or what was going on? Amazon may have it for you. The company recently launched a new tool for Prime Video that uses AI to create personalized recaps.

IX-Ray Recaps uses generative AI to create “short, easy-to-digest recaps” of entire TV seasons, single episodes or parts of episodes. This is all personalized, so the recap will go up “to the exact minute you’re watching.” The company promises “brief scripts for key cliffhangers, character-driven plot points” and other details.

Adam Gray, vice president of product at Prime Video, says the tool will help customers “quickly go back to what they were watching or rediscover why they liked a series in the first place.” It is powered by Amazon Bedrock, the company’s AWS service for building and scaling AI applications. For those worried about spoilers, the AI is trained to avoid them at all costs.

A practical tool.

Amazon

This is an extension of X-Ray’s existing feature, which provides gossip and broadcast information during the broadcast. I love this tool and am always amazed that other broadcasters haven’t adopted something similar.

IX-Ray Recaps is rolling out today to Fire TV customers, albeit in beta format. More devices will receive support later this year. Currently, it only works with content created by Amazon MGM Studios, such as Upload it, Mr & Mrs Smith, Tim’s wheeland again Boys.
