The Teamsters union issued a warning Thursday that holiday packages could be delayed as thousands of Amazon workers join picket lines to fight for a union contract that guarantees wages, health care and safety.
However, Amazon told FOX Business that it does not expect any impact on operations.
Amazon Teamsters at seven facilities in Skokie, Illinois; New York City; in Atlanta; San Francisco; and Southern California participated in the “largest strike” against a trillion-dollar company in American history, the union said in a news release. Employees from other institutions are ready to join.
“If your package is delayed during the holidays, you can blame Amazon’s insatiable greed. We gave Amazon a clear deadline to come to the table and do right by our members. They are ignoring you,” Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien said in a statement.

Although the Teamsters union says it represents about 10,000 people at 10 Amazon locations in the US, Amazon has said it does not recognize the union’s involvement.
Amazon spokeswoman Kelly Nantel told FOX Business in a statement that this was “an attempt to spin a false story.”

“Teamsters have continued to deliberately mislead the public – claiming they represent ‘thousands of Amazon workers and drivers.’ They don’t,” Nantel said, adding that “the Teamsters threatened, intimidated and tried to coerce Amazon employees and third-party drivers into joining, which is illegal and the subject of multiple pending wrongful-employment lawsuits. union.”

The strike began after union workers at the DCK6 Amazon facility in San Francisco voted to authorize a strike in their fight for union recognition and a fair contract.

The Teamsters said they have set a December 15 deadline for the company to negotiate a labor agreement.
The union also said that more than 20 bargaining centers, representing nearly 9,000 workers, have successfully organized and that the company “intimidates, intimidates and coerces its workers by letting union drivers into the centers.”
