A 30-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district has been arrested in Pakistan for crossing the border illegally. While authorities in a neighboring country are still investigating the cause of his illegal entry, the man says he crossed the border and met a woman he fell in love with after becoming her friend on Facebook.

This is not the first time that a love story that crosses borders has been reported. Among the headlines are the stories of Seema Haider and Iqra Jeewani, who are of Pakistani origin who entered India illegally for love.

While Seema Haider met her lover, Sachin Meena, while playing PUBG, Iqra Jeewani fell in love while playing the board game ‘Ludo’ online.

Reports in 2023 revealed that Jeewani was a “shy teenager”, who sold his jewelery and borrowed money from friends to buy plane tickets to Dubai and on to Kathmandu from where he crossed into India.

India and Pakistan share uneasy relations. The neighbors have fought three wars since 1947, when India was partitioned at Independence and Pakistan was formed. People reported that bad history often made it difficult for them to get travel visas to see each other.

A man from Aligarh, who was arrested by the Punjab Police in Pakistan from Mandi Bahauddin town, has been identified as a resident of Nagla Khatkari, Badal Babu.

Report to India Today quoted Pakistani authorities as saying that Babu admitted during questioning that he had a romantic relationship with the woman on social media and, wishing to meet her in person, entered the country without a valid visa or travel documents.

The report stated that Babu was arrested on December 27 after he failed to produce his travel documents. He was booked under Section 13 and 14 of the Pakistan Foreign Affairs Act, 1946.

Babu then appeared in court, and was kept in custody for 14 days. He is scheduled to appear again on January 10, 2025.

Babu’s Story Makes Pakistan Shame

Although the man from Aligarh has confessed to his love story, the Pakistani authorities are investigating whether there could be another purpose for his illegal entry as he previously tried to cross the India-Pakistan border twice but failed.

The book says that Babu, on his third attempt, successfully crossed into Pakistan and landed in Mandi Bahauddin, where he reportedly met a woman he was talking to online.

Aligarh Man’s Family Don’t Know About His Plans

Badal Babu’s family got information about his arrest in Pakistan when the news spread on social media. News18 Hindi he quoted his father, Kripal Singh, as saying that Babu had come home 20 days before Diwali. He last spoke to his son on November 30 using a video phone. Babu then told his family that the work he was attending was over. The family didn’t talk to him about that. Now they are urging the government to bring Babu back.

Aligarh SSP Sanjeev Suman told News18 Hindi that no information has been received from Pakistan or Indian Embassy in this regard yet. Police are still gathering information by talking to family members.
