On October 21, 2021, a fatal shooting occurred on the set of Rust when Alec Baldwin was given a gun as part of an upcoming scene.
But that shot ended up releasing live bullets that hit cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza. Hutchins died from his wounds, and Souza was injured.
Apparently, Alec Baldwin was given a Colt .45, which he was told was a “cold gun,” meaning there were no bullets. It also meant that it was safe to use on set. But the gun went off, hitting Hutchins, who was taken to New Mexico Hospital in Alberquerque. He did not survive.
