As Agatha Everything Goes is preparing to release its fifth episode—out of nine in total—fans now have a growing idea of how the show fits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And, well, it’s been pretty self-contained so far, except for a few hints of Mephisto-adjacent lore. That’s just great Agatha Everything Goes creator Jac Schaeffer, who knows a thing or two about meeting the MCU, has created Agathathe predecessor WandaVision.
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Schaeffer – who also wrote with him Black Widowwhich had many tenders attached to other Marvel properties—felt comfortable working in the MCU’s independent package. “Agatha has not appeared in any of the features [so we] you were not responsible for restoring any canon,” he said. “Open up WandaVisionboth Paul [Bettany] and Lizzie [Elizabeth Olsen] they had a lot of backstory to themselves and to each other. So their romantic moments in movies are very small, but they meant a lot to these two actors. So we wanted to emphasize those moments and fill them in more detail. “
He continued. “We also had a big Scarlet Witch load of Infinity Stones and that kind of thing. Even with WandaVisionit was less about how it fits into future architecture. We had some of that, but it was more of, ‘How do we integrate this into what’s already there and both improve the story we’re telling and emphasize the stories that have come before?’ It’s sad to throw away or tear down what’s been established, too [upholding the past stories] it was part of our job there. So we didn’t have this activity in a big way Agatha Everything Goes because Agatha is his bird.”
However, Schaeffer also recognizes that being part of the bigger picture can be helpful in its own way. “A lot of writers have a big idea, and if something can be anything, that can be difficult,” she said. “So when you say, ‘It can only be this, but do it right,’ I find that kind of liberating. When we first started looking at Wizard Road and how we would design it, a lot of what’s in the comics wasn’t something we knew or wanted to use. But then it felt open, so I found the first interview on the street almost too blue sky. “
Fortunately, Agatha Everything GoesThe team found a way to bring focus to that wide blue sky—including setting up each location along the Witches’ Road so far in its fashionable beauty—that makes the show feel aimed at both Marvel fans. again people who are impressed with Kathryn Hahn’s acting and spelling and character. Unfortunately, however, Schaeffer’s commitment to Agatha means he won’t have a direct hand in the sequel to his original creation: starring Bettany Vision Quest.
“It was with a heavy heart that I saw that [working on Vision Quest] according to the plan it wouldn’t work for me,” she said. “But I’m looking forward to that game. I’m just a huge fan of everyone involved, especially Paul.”
