After the announcement of Diwali bonus for government employees by the Uttar Pradesh government, the Yogi Adityanath government has announced an increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for 17 lakh government employees and teachers this festive season.
This comes after a similar move by the central government in October. The Uttar Pradesh government has increased DA for its employees to 3%, taking the total to 53%. This will take effect from July 1, and will be reflected in wages received on October 30.
Earlier, on Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced Diwali bonus for around 15 lakh non-gazetted government employees. The Ministry of Finance then issued a government order in this regard.
Employees will get Rs 6,908 as bonus, with salaries deposited before Diwali. However, only 25% of the bonus (Rs 1,727) will be paid in cash, and the remaining 75% will be deposited into their General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts.
This month’s salary hike and bonus payments will incur an additional financial cost of Rs 1,022 crore to the state government.
