Rising costs of living and rising student housing prices have increased college retention efforts as institutional leaders look to address a growing concern: the insecurity of basic needs.
Lack of essential resources such as food, housing and clothing and general financial difficulties are the top two reasons students say they leave college.
To address this issue and provide resources to students, the University of Houston opened its Student and Community Advocacy Center in 2020, which houses some of the university’s key needs programs.
