India has expressed its disapproval of remarks made to a Canadian parliamentary committee on October 29 about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) summoned a representative of the Canadian High Commission on Wednesday and issued a press release in which he condemned the comments as “absurd and baseless”.
David Morrison is Canada’s deputy foreign minister. Earlier this week he told Canada’s Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security that Khalistani extremists were targeted on the Shah’s orders.
“It is expressed in the Document that the Government of India protests in strong terms about the unreasonable and baseless references made against the Home Minister of India before the Committee by the Deputy Minister David Morrison,” the statement said.
