A 21-year-old woman died while being treated after allegedly poisoning herself at her boyfriend’s house in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh. His partner reportedly rejected his marriage proposal, police said on Tuesday.
Srinagar station house officer (SHO) Shivpal Singh told The PTI that a woman, Mamta Vishwakarma, 21) from Nanuara village, went to the house of Golu Tamrakar, 25, in Manoharganj area.
He went on to say that the initial investigation revealed that Mamta and Golu had been in love for a few years. On Monday evening (November 4), Mamta went to Golu and asked him to marry her. When Golu refused, an argument broke out during which Mamta took poison, he said.
Singh said that following an argument between the two, Mamta consumed a poisonous substance. Seeing his condition deteriorating, Golu’s family members took him to the district hospital where he was transferred to Jhansi Medical College, he said.
“Unfortunately, he died on the way to the hospital,” he added.
Based on the complaint filed by Mamta’s brother, a case of attempted suicide has been registered against Golu and his brother Akash, and now a hunt is on to arrest them.
