AAP document screening cancelled, Kejriwal slams BJP for ‘tyranny’ | Delhi News

After the screening of a film, said to be based on the jailing of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders a few years ago, was canceled on Saturday, AAP activist Arvind Kejriwal attacked the BJP for what he described as “tyranny”.

The Delhi Police, however, said the group did not have permission for the search.

AAP has organized a media screening of a documentary titled, Unbreakable, which party officials have described as “a moving documentary of an unprecedented attack on AAP and its leaders”. The viewing was supposed to start at 11.30 am at the designated venue and Kejriwal was the chief guest.

After the cancellation, an official statement from the Delhi Police said, “Since the election has been announced, political parties have to apply for permission through a single window system at the DEO’s office (which is the DM’s office). This is a normal procedure during elections. On the said occasion, no such permission was taken; and therefore, it would be a violation of the guidelines. We urge all agencies to follow the rules and regulations at this time.”

“Furthermore, it is clarified that the Delhi Police cannot grant or refuse such permission at this time ….,” it added.

Kejriwal, however, said the documentary would not be screened because the BJP was “scared”.

“Today, we had planned a media screening of our film… This was a private show and not a public one, but many police officers were pressured to stop the screening. Why is the BJP so afraid of this film? I have not seen it but I am told that it is a case of AAP leaders being sent to jail. It clears the veil of many conspiracies hatched to send AAP leaders to jail. “

“Where does it say that permission is needed to show this film? There is no election related message in it… why is BJP so scared? This is goondagardi (bullying)… dictatorship,” he said at a press conference.
