A teenager died due to electrocution during a procession to celebrate Prophet Mohammad’s birth anniversary in Wadgaon Sheri area of Pune city on Sunday morning.
Pune city police identified the deceased as Abhay Waghmare, 17. A police official said the incident took place around 10:30 am when a procession was passing through the vegetable market in Wadgaon Sheri.
Police said Waghmare and several others were waving a flag attached to a metal during the procession. While waving the flag, they were standing on a music system installed on top of the car. They received a severe electric shock after coming into contact with an overhead wire.
“Waghmare died in the incident while at least one person identified as Zaki Shaikh was left seriously injured and is being treated at a private hospital,” said the police chief.
Meanwhile, Waghmare’s body was sent for post-mortem.
