“A 22-year-old man accused of murder threw a slip at a judge during a trial at a district court in Maharashtra’s Thane,” police said on Monday (December 23, 2024.)

“The slipper did not hit the judge, instead it hit the wooden frame in front of his desk and fell next to the clerk on the bench,” they said. The incident took place on Saturday afternoon (December 21, 2024) at the court in the city of Kalyan and a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the accused.

“The accused Kiran Santosh Bharam was placed before the District and Additional Sessions Judge RG Waghmare to hear the case of murder against him,” said an officer at the Mahatma Fule police station.

“At that time, the defendant made a request to the judge that his case be transferred to another court. The judge asked the defendant to do the same for his lawyer,” said the official.

“Then the name of his lawyer was called but he was not there and did not appear in court. That is why the defendant was asked to name another lawyer to represent him and the court gave him a new date,” he said.

“The suspect then bent down, pulled his slip and threw it towards the judge, and everyone present in the court was surprised,” said the officer.

“An FIR was then registered against the accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 132 (assault or crime to prevent a public servant from performing his duty) and 125 (act endangering the life or safety of others),” police said.
