Governor RN Ravi handing over a check to the beneficiary of a communication program at VIT Vellore on Saturday.
The Controller of Defense Accounts, Chennai, on Saturday organized SPARSH, an outreach program at Vellore Institute of Technology for the benefit of defense pensioners and pensioner families of Vellore district.
The program is organized in collaboration with Dakshin Bharat Area headquarters of Indian Army, Chennai and Vellore District Ex Servicemen Welfare Board.
Governor RN Ravi, who presided over the function, honored the Chakra awardees and veterans of the defense forces.
He spoke about Vellore’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle. He also highlighted the role of the Indian Army in nation building and providing humanitarian and disaster relief, the release said.
More than 2100 pensioners and their families participated in the outreach program. Their grievances were taken up for immediate redressal.
Lieutenant-General Karanbir Singh Brar, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area; Mayank Sharma, Special Controller of Defense Accounts; and General Dinakaran, Deputy Inspector General of the Indian Coast Guard were among those present.
