The CDS, in its speech of the day, also said that the Israel-Hamas and Israel-Hezbollah conflicts are likely to “move forward”.
Defense Chief General Anil Chauhan on Friday said the current situation in the country is “critical” and every country is betting against “this kind of uncertain future”.
His comments at an event organized by the Society of Indian Defense Manufacturers (SIDM) here come in the wake of the protracted Russia-Ukraine war and escalation of tensions in parts of West Asia.
The CDS, in its speech of the day, also said that the Israel-Hamas and Israel-Hezbollah conflicts are likely to “move forward”.
“The world we see around us is facing an unprecedented crisis… The basic question that comes to everyone’s mind is whether wars will continue to be a tool of state policy to resolve political conflicts, the simple answer to all this is yes,” said Gen Chauhan.
He told a meeting of defense industry leaders that he believed “conflicts are an inevitable part” of human life and human nature, and wars and wars have been part of civilization.
“Wars and wars have existed as long as human civilization and will continue. “The current political climate is volatile and everyone, every nation is betting on this kind of uncertain future,” he said.
“Another important lesson about wars is that there are no runners-up and the winner takes it all. So, all nations are actually trying, as they say, to keep the powder dry. India should also follow that path,” CDS added.
In his speech, he also referred to the first Joint Chiefs’ Conference held in Lucknow in September.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, while addressing the conference, said that India is committed to peace but must prepare for war, to maintain it.
Gen Chauhan said, “Honest deterrence is the only way to maintain peace. A peace-loving nation like India should have enough teeth”. He also quoted a couplet from the national poet Ramdhari Singh Dinkar’s poem to emphasize his point.
He highlighted four aspects related to the defense and military situation in the Indian context – future, empowerment, export promotion and smart innovation.
He recalled the course of the first battle that took place last month in New Delhi.
“We’re not trying to replicate how advanced the military is to fight their wars, we’re actually trying to figure out how we’re going to fight our wars.” Because our environment, our threats, our geography, our environment, everything is different from us. And, we will find unique solutions, which suit us,” CDS added.
Later, the defense minister addressed a meeting at the SIDM event.
Singh also launched the SIDM Champions Awards which recognize outstanding achievements in defense manufacturing.
He termed these awards as a manifestation of the dedication and efficiency of Indian manufacturers, which will serve as a symbol of best practices in the industry.
