Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday busted a new militant outfit believed to be an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), officials said.
The Counter-Intelligence Wing (CIK) of the J&K Police conducted a major operation, raiding several districts, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Bandipora, Kulgam, Budgam, Anantnag and Pulwama, officials said.
According to the police, they have dismantled an outfit called ‘Tehreek Labaik Ya Muslim’ (TLM), which is believed to be an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The equipment was reportedly used by a Pakistani terrorist known as ‘Baba Hamas,’ officials said.
The raid is still ongoing, and further details are awaited, they added.
The anti-terror operation came a day after another Lashkar group, the Resistance Front (TRF), was reportedly involved in an attack in Ganderbal district that killed a doctor and six migrant workers on Sunday.
According to security forces, TRF chief Sheikh Sajjad Gul, a resident of Srinagar, was the mastermind behind the attack. The group has been targeting Kashmiris and non-Kashmiris for a long time, sources said. In 2022, the NIA announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh each for information leading to the arrest of Gul and three others.
