Originally, Pooley was a licensed instructor at the center, but his license was suspended in 2015. However, he continued to fraudulently run skydiving courses, teaching more than 100 instructors, including the one whose jump in 2016 led to his death. Now, a disappointed Pooley has been jailed for two years.
How was Pooley able to continue teaching after his license was revoked? In short, the Lodi Parachute Center uses digital signatures for instructors, and Pooley used the signature of another instructor who was still certified.
That allowed him to continue training skydiving instructors at the infamous facility that has claimed 28 lives since 1985.
