Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty ImagesMeghan Markle looked as good as ever when she appeared at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles 2024 Gala on Saturday, October 5.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, wore a red Carolina Herrera dress and matching shoes for the event, which honored CHLA patients and the hospital’s children’s staff. Markle paired her dress, which she previously wore to the Salute to Freedom gala in New York in 2021, with an updo.
The mother of two walked the red carpet without her husband, Prince Harrywho was in the small mountain kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa this week – having founded a charity in 2006 in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana.
Markle did, however, join many of her friends inside the event, including the founder of the Alliance of Moms Kelly McKee Zajfenits charity supports pregnant and parenting youth in the foster care system. Markel was at Zajfen’s side after the tragic loss of her 9-year-old son, George, to a viral illness in 2022.
Markle praised CHLA in an interview posted on Instagram, calling it the “best place in the world” for children to receive medical care.
“Oh my God, the work they do at the LA Children’s Hospital is foreign, and I think as a mother, no one wants to be in a situation where they have to go to a place like this, but if you have to, the best place in the world to go is the LA Children’s Hospital,” she told reporters.
He went on to say that his close friends, including his high school friends, have children who are currently being treated in the hospital.
“The staff are amazing, and the amount of work they do for families who could not afford this level of care is something that I think should not be overlooked at all,” he concluded. “So I’m grateful for everything they do, I’m happy to be here to support me.”

Inside the gala, Markle – who shares son Archie, 5, and daughter Lilibet, 3, with Harry, 40 – took pictures with family whose children are patients at the hospital and spoke to nurses.
