Muizzu and Sajidha Mohamed, the Maldivian First Lady, have arrived in New Delhi on their first bilateral visit to India.
Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday met Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu who arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, on his first bilateral visit to India, and Sajidha Mohamed, the Maldivian First Lady.

“Delighted to call on President @MMuizzu today at the start of his State visit to India. Appreciate his commitment to developing relationships. I am confident that his talks with PM @narendramodi tomorrow will give new impetus to our friendly relations,” Jaishankar said in a social media post X.
Muizzu was received by the Union Minister of External Affairs, Kiriti Vardhan Singh. His visit, which will last from October 6-10, came after an official invitation from President Draupadi Murmu.
“The Honorable President Dr @MMuizzu and the First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed arrived in New Delhi, India, for a visit, at the invitation of the President of India, the Honorable Droupadi Murmu. The official reception will be held tomorrow. The President and the First Lady are accompanied by a high-level government delegation,” said the Maldivian President’s Office on social media.
Muizzu told the news agency ANI At the recently concluded 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) he is planning to visit India very soon.
This is the second time Muizzu has visited India this year. He previously visited India this year to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in early June.
Traditionally, almost every Maldivian president makes India their first foreign visit, but Muizzu broke with this convention by visiting Turkey first, then China, after assuming office.
