“Obviously it’s such a tragedy. It had a big impact on all the players in the hockey community,” said Lundqvist, 42, a Hall of Famer goaltender for the New York Rangers. Fox News in an interview published on Friday, October 4.
“The hockey community is strong. I played against Johnny, met Johnny at All-Star events through friends, nice guy. His brother, I never met him, but listening to people talk about them as brothers and family, they were great people. It was a difficult day when you heard the news and you were sad.”
Johnny again Matthew they were killed on August 29 when a suspected drunk driver hit the brothers while they were riding their bikes near their hometown in New Jersey. The brothers were together celebrating their sister Katie the wedding that was to take place the next day. Johnny and Matthew were 31 and 29, respectively.
After the death, Katie and her boyfriend, Devin Joycethey called off their marriage due to grief.
Sean M. Higginsthe man accused of hitting and killing Johnny and Matthew with his car, is currently in prison after being charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.
During a court appearance on September 13, it was revealed that Higgins’ blood alcohol level was over the legal limit of .08.
Higgins had previously admitted to New Jersey State Police that he had consumed “five to six beers” before killing Johnny and Matthew. He also admitted that he had been drinking while driving his car.

During the hearing, the Judge Michael Silviano he said, “[Higgins’] the operation was so interrupted that he did not see the two young men riding bicycles safely on the road.”
His next court date is scheduled for October 15. Higgins faces up to 20 years in prison.
Meanwhile, Johnny and Matthew’s family want to prevent the records of the fatal accident from being made public.
The Gaudreau family has filed a motion that would bar any government agency from releasing records related to the crash, including 911 calls, video footage from police dashboard and body cameras, photos, investigative reports or autopsy photos, according to NJ.com.
Johnny and Matthew are survived by their parents, Guy again Janeand two sisters, Katie again Kristen. In addition, Johnny is survived by his wife, Meredith Gaudreaudaughter Noah2, and a son Johnny, 7 months. At the brothers’ memorial service on September 9, Meredith revealed that she is currently pregnant with their third child.
