Former New York Governor David Paterson, adopted son attacked by gang of suspects walking dog: Report


Former New York Governor David Paterson and his adopted son were walking their dog in Manhattan on Friday night when three young suspects attacked them.

Paterson, 70, and his stepson, 20, encountered the male suspects, who may have been teenagers, climbing into a fire escape on Second Avenue near East 96th Street shortly before 9 p.m., police sources told the New York Post.

The victims told the suspects that they stopped and started walking away before they were attacked, according to the store.

The spokesman for the former governor of the Democratic Alliance, Sean Darcy, in a statement sent by the New York Post said that the suspects “have worked together before. [Pateron’s] son.”

“They both received injuries but were able to fight off their attackers,” said Darcy.

Paterson suffered a head injury, and his stepson suffered facial injuries, police sources told the New York Post, noting that the former governor’s stepson’s injuries were serious.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

No one has been arrested in connection with the attack as of Friday night.

Paterson served as governor of New York from 2008 to 2010. His wife is Mary Sliwa, ex-wife of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa.
