Many comedies followed, such as, The Hangover 2it will reuse the same jokes and plot beats again without calling it out. That makes for a boring, predictable movie with no surprises, which 22 Jump Street manages to avoid a joke first and, secondly, brings a new interesting point that includes Hill’s Schmidt. Laughing and winking about the same plot as the first film while still introducing new gags and angles is incredibly impressive, and that’s why the sequel stands out from the original.
