The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) has strengthened its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) to increase its assistance to public schools especially those in low-income areas, a senior official said. said.
DBP President and Chief Executive Officer Michael O. de Jesus said the Bank disbursed more than P4 million through DepEd’s Adopt-a-School Program (ASP).
“DBP has strengthened its CSR programs in collaboration with President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. with the vision of improving the quality of education for all,” said Mr. of Jesus. “Through these latest efforts, DBP has been able to reach far-flung areas and help the poor and needy students in the country.”
DBP is 10th the largest bank in the country by assets and provides credit financing in four strategic sectors of the economy – infrastructure and asset planning; micro, small and medium enterprises; the environment; and social services and community development.
ASP was established under Republic Act No.8525 or the “Adopt-a-School Act of 1988” which aims to improve the quality of education in the country by addressing the lack of resources in public schools.
Mr. de Jesus said that under the ASP, the DBP disbursed a total of P4 million to eight partner schools nationwide such as Saguday National High School in Quirino; Balud National High School in Masbate; Benton Integrated School – Bontoc 1 in Southern Leyte; Sultan Mamarinta Panandigan Integrated School in Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte; BA Calamba National High School in Cotabato; Lintugop National High School in Zamboanga Del Sur; and Samboan National High School and Argao National High School in Cebu.
He said DBP’s financial assistance was used for the purchase of computers, installation of stable internet connection, distribution of learning equipment, and development of facilities.
“The DBP will closely coordinate and collaborate with other government agencies to look for ways to increase support to disadvantaged sectors and at the same time, promote social integration and drive positive change,” said Mr de Jesus.
