Jaren Jackson Jr. Injury Update: Low-grade Hamstring Strain
On our way out of Nashville, Tennessee, an unexpected incident occurred during the Memphis Grizzlies training camp. Jaren Jackson Jr., the team’s prized power/middle infielder, suffered a strained hamstring. The news was confirmed by Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins after analyzing Jackson’s MRI results.
Coach Jenkins Takes Jackson’s Injury
Jenkins described the MRI findings as “exciting news”, which was a breather after practice on Wednesday. Jackson, who was named the 2022-23 Defensive Player of the Year, had to finish the first day of training camp earlier than planned due to discomfort in his hamstring.
Jenkins’ Plan for Jackson’s Recovery
“We will be careful throughout pre-season, so we are not setting a firm timeline. Well, it’s great news,” Jenkins said. He also eased concerns about Jackson’s readiness to open the regular season, stressing that “there is absolutely no fear.”
Grizzlies’ Struggles With Injuries
The Grizzlies had a difficult season following a number of injuries that plagued their last season, which led to a 27-55 record. When they entered the training camp, two of the most important players in their journey were already benched due to long-term injuries.
GG Jackson, a second-team All-Rookie selection last season, had surgery on August 30 to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot. This injury will keep him out for at least the first two months of the regular season.
Vince Williams Jr., another key player known for his defensive skills, is dealing with a stress reaction in the upper part of his left tibia. His re-examination is due for the start of the regular season. Despite these setbacks, the Grizzlies remain optimistic and strong for the upcoming season.
