Junior DOCTORS once again filled the streets of Kolkata on Wednesday protesting the rape and murder case of RG Kar. As they marched from College Square to Dharmatala, senior doctors also joined the rally, apart from the general public.
Debashis Halder, a representative of the protesting junior doctors, said that some part of the government is trying to make the junior doctors “look like public enemies.”
“The death of a patient hurts his family as much as it hurts the doctor and the health. Do you know why we were forced to start the strike? We wanted to see a good way but now the state government is not showing that. ” He went on to say, “We are not public enemies. We want to work now. But if the demands are not met, on what basis will we join the work? How do we feel safe? We give time. We will count hour by hour.”
Junior doctors also expressed doubts about the Central Bureau of Investigation’s investigation into the case.
“If necessary, we will go to Delhi. We will raise our voices together. “It is not only the government of the country that we are fighting with this protest for our legitimate demands, but this pressure should also be felt by the Central Bureau of Investigation,” said Halder.
Many senior doctors’ associations were also present at the junior doctors’ rally on Wednesday.
Actress Sohini Sarkar also joined the procession. He said, “We understand that others are looking out for themselves. The year 2026 is coming. It will benefit them if they can reach somewhere using this story. Ordinary citizens can also understand that,” he said.
