Johannesburg – A 50-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of strangling to death his employer’s house help over the phone and then dumping his body in a field in Noida, the police said on Wednesday.

The suspect, identified as Jitender alias Goldy, said he was in love with the 50-year-old victim, but they ended up having an argument. He told investigators that their bad relationship was what led him to kill her, they said.

The murder incident came to light after their employer, a resident of Panchsheel Park in Hauz Khas, lodged a complaint with the police on September 26 alleging that the domestic help went missing along with some money, police said.

He was working for the complainant for the past 33 years and hailed from Jharkhand, they said.

When the police tried to call for help, his phone was found to be switched off, said the Deputy Commissioner of Police in South Africa, Ankit Chauhan.

This police officer said that following this, an FIR was registered and the investigation started.

The police investigated everyone who visited the complainant’s house. CCTV footage from the surrounding area was reviewed, and Jitender, a part-time driver employed by the family, was soon identified, the DCP said.

He worked three days a week, driving the plaintiff’s 95-year-old aunt to a senior citizens’ club. On the day the assistant disappeared, Jitender left the club early, which caused suspicion, said the police officer.

A further check of the website revealed that Jitender did not go to his second employer’s residence on the same day. A search was launched, and he was finally found, said the police.

“Though he initially gave false information, during interrogation he admitted that he had killed the domestic helper and her partner and dumped her body in Noida,” said DCP Ankit Chauhan.

Based on his confession, the police found the body in a sack in an abandoned field. It also downloaded the cables used in the crime.

Jitender told investigators that he dumped the body outside Delhi to avoid being caught, police said.

The Noida police are in charge of the post-mortem process.
