In most of his films, be it an urban rom-com or a con-drama, Ritu Varma has done voice acting, and never thought of pushing it. However, when director Hasith Goli gave him a detailed narration Swaghe was surprised. Swaga Telugu film releasing on October 4, abbreviated as ‘Swaganika vamsam’; the story set in different time periods has Ritu in a dual role – as queen Rukmini Devi in the past, and civil engineer Anubhuti in the present.
Gearing up for this interview in Hyderabad after returning from a shoot in Rajahmundry, Ritu says, “I loved Hasith’s first film, Raja Raja Choraand thought he was going to discuss a romcom. Nothing prepared me for what I was going to hear.” He explains Swag as a delightful satire on the dynamics of gender, inheritance and descent.
Making fun of gender statistics
A story about the concepts of matrilineal and patrilineal societies, Ritu explains, gave her an opportunity to do something she had never done before. “It was like a breeze and it came to me that I was eager to sign a Telugu film.”

As Rukmini Devi, she portrays a ruling queen who does not take kindly to male heirs. Hasith gave him several references of Indian queens and he carefully recognized Ramya Krishna as Sivagami in the. They sing. “We worked on Rukmini Devi’s look and body language. She is elegantly dressed, with jewelry, unibrows and wearing colored lenses that enhance her authoritative demeanor.”
In architect Anubhuti, Ritu plays a tanned character with messy clothes and messy hair, as she spends a lot of time around construction sites. “Anubhuti gets angry and brags when he encounters injustice. Both of these characters are very far from who I am in real life. I want to be equal, but I’m well-spoken and quiet.”
Swag casts Ritu in a film with Sree Vishnu after their respective exits as she went solo in the 2013 film Prema Ishq Kaadhal. In Swagtheir characters are not in romantic relationships. “This also surprised me when I heard this story,” he remembers.
Speaking two languages
Ritu was last seen in Telugu cinema Varudu Kavalenu again Oke Oka Jeevitham (Kanam in Tamil). He watches Swag as an interesting yet experimental film that will help him make his presence felt. “Until now, I am touched when people come to talk to me, at the shooting locations or when I am on tour, sometimes I remember the scenes behind the scenes. Pelli Choopulu, Varudu… or my Tamil film Kannum Kannum Kollai Adithal (Kanulu Kanulanu Dochayante). I never planned to be an actor and I am grateful for all these honors. ”

Ritu has appeared in Telugu and Tamil films, and says, “It’s a good place to be. I wouldn’t say I’m getting too many scripts; it’s still a challenge to find interesting films. In the case of Swagdetailed background stories and interviews with Hasith Goli help. “Hasith is knowledgeable and has given me more information than I asked for. Swag is made on a larger scale than Raja Raja Chora and handled the film with confidence and grace. After shooting, I would go home satisfied with a good job. It involved a lot of unlearning and learning and I have fond memories of working on this film.”
