Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has become the latest Democrat to defend Kamala Harris’s ever-changing position on immigration, saying it’s “natural” for the vice president to change her mind over time.

“It’s only natural that you adapt your policies to meet this time,” Pritzker said during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.

The comments come as Harris has faced accusations of “flip-flopping” on several previous policy positions by Republicans, including on illegal immigration and the border.

“Kamala Harris continues to be flexible on policy issues, most recently the border wall,” said Rep. Erin Houchin, R-Ind., after Harris signed her support for a bipartisan border bill that includes funding for the US-Mexico border. the wall. “Too bad we have the receipts. Don’t follow his false promises; he accepted this attack, and if he had any real plans to deal with the border problem, he would do it now.”

Some Republicans, such as Trump’s senior adviser Jason Miller, said Harris has not changed his position on the wall, saying he would still stop construction of the barrier if elected.

“Harris is against the wall, he’s been against the wall, and he stopped the wall as VP,” Miller told Fox News last month.

Still, Harris’ allies continued to defend the vice president’s evolving views.

“You develop your policies based on what you see happening in the world around you and what you’re able to accomplish in Washington,” Biden’s Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said when asked about Harris’ changing policies during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press” earlier this month. “Every election is about the future, not the past.”

Regarding immigration, Pritizker indicated that Harris supported action on the border, noting that he supports President Biden’s bipartisan border deal that failed to pass the Senate.

“Finally, under Joe Biden, we got Sen. Lankford and a total of 75 senators behind the border security bill and you know who did that? Donald Trump,” Pritzker said. “So we have to pay attention to the fact that Kamala Harris is actually trying to solve problems.”
