
I have a difficult relationship with the organization. This is true when it comes to my home, my time, and my life as a whole. The organizational process doesn’t bring me joy, though to work of an organized home and life is very beneficial to me. Over the years, I have found some organizational tips and habits that work best for me. Most of the useful information I have found comes from one specific source: books.
Today I’m sharing three great planning books that have helped me live a more organized life.
These books are accessible and full of helpful advice. They’re not about perfection—they’re about finding what works best for you as an individual.
1. How to Save a House When You’re Drowning by KC Davis

If you are in a situation in your life where you are trying to survive or you are facing a crisis, this is the book you should read. It is also very helpful for people like me who have ADHD. KC organization and cleaning tips are very practical and approachable. He describes the act of organizing and cleaning as “morally neutral,” meaning that having a clean home (or not having a clean home) does not make you a good or bad person. I find this attitude very helpful. And he’s an awesome person to follow on TikTok!
2. Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management of Mortals by Oliver Burkeman

This book is about finding out how to organize your precious time by prioritizing and honoring the things that are most important to you. I wrote about the power of this book years and I started reading it again recently. This book is about defining habits that will improve your daily life and better planning your days around. It has helped me identify the areas in my life where I am achieving my goals and the areas where I am falling short. It has helped me find small ways to improve areas that fall into the latter category such that this is not the case about perfectionism.
