Prohibitory orders imposed in Odisha’s Bhadrak due to communal tension

Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita were imposed in Bhadrak town on Friday (September 27, 2024) evening after members of the public clashed with police and government officials. This incident started when the authorities refused permission to hold a march in response to comments on social media about their prophet, which led to the stoning of an angry crowd.

“Though information has been received from Tahasildar, Bhadrak that after writing something on social media related to the belief of a certain community under Purunabazar in Bhadrak area, the community has become violent,” said Bhadrak Sub-Collector imposing prohibitory orders under section 163. of BNS .

The collector said government officials were injured when stones were pelted and cars were also damaged.

Following a Facebook post, more than 600 people blocked the road at Santhia bridge, which connects Kacheribazar and Purunabazar. They want the person responsible for this position to be arrested.

“When the police tried to detain the protesters during the meeting, the crowd refused and tried to move forward, which led the police to use force. “In response, other youths who were present at the meeting started pelting stones until the police were injured,” said the Bhadrak district police.

Bhadrak had witnessed social backlash over a similar post on Facebook by a certain community in 2017. (
