The Alipore Meteorological Department has not predicted rain during the Pujas, saying that large parts of West Bengal may receive light rain till October 13.
Durga Puja begins on October 10 and will culminate on October 12.
Although rain may be sporadic, there is a greater chance of rain from October 5 to 9, especially in south Bengal. “We are expecting moderate rain in many parts of southern Bengal from October 5 to 9,” said an official of the Department of Communications.
According to the weather office, some parts of the southern states could witness similar weather conditions, accompanied by gusty winds during the Pujas.
However, the Met office has not issued a severe storm warning or advised fishermen to take precautionary measures.
In North Bengal, the Met has issued a yellow warning (heavy rain) for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong districts on Sunday. “All other northern districts are expected to experience light to moderate rain and thundershowers till next Thursday,” the official said.
The Met office said this is due to the prevailing weather conditions due to the cyclone in the south-west of Madhya Pradesh and the axis from south Gujarat to north-west Bihar. “These things lead to the expected rain in the province,” said the official.
