Genmoji, one of Apple Intelligence’s most interesting features, isn’t available on the iPhone 16 yet, but we recently got a sneak peek at how it works.
Spotted by TechRadar, Apple has updated its iPadOS 18 information page with some tips about Apple Intelligence features coming to its device ecosystem starting later this year. Of particular interest is Genmoji, an AI-generated emoji that users can quickly create to use in text chats and more.
Again, this feature is not available as of this writing, but a new page provides a brief description of how it will work.

“You’ll be able to create original Genmoji in supported apps with the emoji keyboard,” Apple’s website says. “Just tap the emoji icon, type the description of the image you want—’Golden Retriever catches the best wave ever,’ for example—then tap ‘Create New Emoji.’

So, in essence, the Genmoji feature works like any other consumer-facing AI product. You type what you want to see, click a button, and after a few seconds, you see what you want to see. However, again, this feature is not available to the public yet. Expect to see it sometime later this year when iOS 18.2 launches.
