: Minister of Foreign Affairs S. Jaishankar met his BRICS counterparts to affirm its role in a world full of states. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations (UNGA).

“It emphasized its importance in diversification and global diversity,” said Mr. Jaishankar on social media X. This group, made up of Brazil Russia India China South Africa, was expanded earlier this year to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran. and the UAE. Thursday’s meeting was called by Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira.

The group is focused on changing international operations and strengthening development, said the minister. They also discussed sustainable development goals, debt, fair trade and the fight against poverty, according to Mr. Jaishankar.

Asked earlier this week at the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) about what India was benefiting from being a member of the Quad and BRICS and the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation), Mr. Jaishankar said that each of these groups represents a different aspect. of India’s intentions.

“I think each one is a different part … of our interests and our jobs,” he said. The BRICS grouping was created under the condition of non-Western countries who feel they are not getting a fair hearing in the overall scheme of things, Mr Jaishankar said.
