Alleged Assam activist held in Bengaluru | Bangalore news

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Assam Police recently arrested a suspect who was part of the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) in Bengaluru.

The suspect was identified as Girish Barua, 26, who was working in a private company in the Jigani industrial area. The suspect is said to be part of a group that planted IEDs in Assam’s North Lakhimpur district last month. The NIA registered a case in this matter earlier this month.

The suspect appeared before the Special NIA Court in Bengaluru on Wednesday, which then issued an arrest warrant and production of the suspect before the Special NIA Court in Guwahati.

Assam police found ‘bomb-like objects’ in at least 10 locations in the northeastern state on Independence Day. After that, others were arrested in Assam but Barbara landed in Bengaluru as one of her friends was staying in Karnataka capital. He was living with the same friend and had started working. The friend has no knowledge of his involvement in the case, police said.
