Editor’s note: Throughout the nifl playoffs, chris myers and his research team analyzed the upcoming news, while providing news, notes, and nuggets within the NFL’s used information to prepare for calling the game.
Both home teams won on Sunday, and the Kansas City Chiefs now head to New Orleans for Super Bowl Lix to take on the Philadelphia Eagles, the same team they beat in Super Bowl LVII to start their streak. This is only the second time in Super Bowl history that the two teams will meet twice during the big three games. In 1992 and 1993, the Dallas Cowboys and Buffalo Bills met in back-to-back Super Bowls.
Two years ago, quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurt provided many highlights in Kansas City’s 38 35 Win. This will be the third time the two quarterbacks have met in the Super Bowl. Troy Aikman’s Cowboys beat Jim Kelly’s Bills in both Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXVIII. Eli Manning also matched twice with Tom Brady, but those professionals are New York New won at the bottom of the five major bowls.
Analysis by Chris Myers: “The Super Bowl Matchup is among the few teams of Powerhouse Teams in general. Yes, there are NFL fans who have found to achieve indicators , but the success of Kansas City and Philadelphia, in recent years and at this time could not be denied.
“There is no shortage of star power, with patrick mahomes, Andy Reid and the result of SwiftIe and Travis Kelce of the chiefs and Siriannian barkley of Philadelphia. They will see What should be a very competitive game and come to a decision about who should remove.
“It is noteworthy that Tom Brady will be calling his first Super Bowl in a game that pits the last team to beat him (Kansas City, Super Bowl Lv) against the last team to beat him there (Philadelphia, Super Bowl Lii).”
Here’s how both teams got here
Philadelphia Eagles 55, Washington Commanders 23
Only one team managed to win on the road in these games, the Chiefs did it twice – in Detroit and Detroit. But they couldn’t make it three in a row as the Eagles became the first team since 1982 to win three home games in a single postseason.
The Eagles are now a plus-10 in the postseason, with six interceptions, four interceptions and not one turnover of any kind.
The Eagles tied an 85-year-old NFL record with their seven rushing touchdowns on Sunday. The Chicago Bulls scored six rushing TDs in the NFL Championship game – and that happened again against Washington. In the 73-0 win, the team scored 11 touchdowns with three punt returns and one passing touchdown.
The Eagles have gone 10 TDS this postseason, tied for second in NFL Postseason history. The record of 12 was returned by Denver in 1997 when they finally lost to Green Bay in Super Bowl XXXII.
Saquoni Barkley went 60 yards for a touchdown on Philadelphia’s first play. It was his seventh 60-plus yard TD in that stretch, setting an NFL record. His three TDs of 60+ yards are also a record in any single postseason.
Backley now has 2,447 rushing yards in a stretch (regular season and postseason) and needs 53 more to become the first NFL player to reach 2,500. He needs 30 in Terrell Davis’ 1998 season. 2,476 passing for 102 yards against the Falcons in Super Bowl XXXIII.
Like Barkley, Eagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts rushed for three TDs against Washington. He now has nine rushing TDs, a new career record for a quarterback. Former 49ers QB Steve Young held the previous mark with eight.
Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert had a 103-game career carry (through the playoffs), best for one yard, before Sunday. But Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore gave him two on the ground for nine-and-four-yard gains against the Chiefs.
On the Washington side, the punter’s destruction method hasn’t thrown a pass since 2018, but he hit a perfect 23-yard strike to Ben Sinnott on Sunday’s fake punt. He ended a three-game postseason streak with only two punts in his original career.
Kudos to running back Zach Ertz on his 11-game hitting streak to set Washington Postseason records. It was his most complete game since 2019 when he played for Philadelphia.
One thing we liked about the broadcast: The fox came up with a great shot from the final 59 shripley, showing his unique expressions as he showed his unique expressions as he fought to stay in front of the following bosses. And Tom Brady, giving a solid performance, vocally provided a timely and enjoyable visual narrative.
Chris Myers’ analysis: “Washington to win this game had to play an error-free game and force a turnover or two.
“Did the Eagles play behind? After the 18 – Play Finield Drive that made it 3-0 in Washington, the drive that was the blueprint for the management’s victory, the Eagles took the lead and opened the pedal game, closing out of the game in an impressive way.
“In addition to these three structures, the chiefs made ‘panic penalties’ and for the first time in these games they showed their lack of knowledge.
“I can’t tell you how many of our production meetings, coaches are Diveaways and Takeaways as the key to victory – and with a plus-10 line so much until the Formula. VIC FANGIO defends himself The coordinator was probably the key recruitment of 2024, and nurtures great talents Jalen Carter.
“The EAGLES have a 10-3 ratio of rushing TDs to passing TDs this post, and if they can do something like that against the Chiefs, say three rushes, I like their chances.”
Kansas City Chiefs 32, Buffalo Bills 29
Chiefs are now the first team to go to five super bowls in six years. They became the first team to get within one win of a three-peat, although the 1990 Bills are the only team with a super straight up (LLLL) appearance. The Miami Dolphins in the early 70s (LWW) and the Patriots starting in 2017 (WLW) also ran out of straight SB.
The Chiefs have a 17-2 record this season despite never scoring more than 30 points in a game.
Josh Allen has produced 28.3 PPG in four postseason meetings with the Chiefs – and is 0-4.
With Patrick Mahomes, he now has 17 postseason wins, moving past Joe Montana into second place on the all-time list. He is no longer among tom brady’s postseason’s postseason’s wins. Mahomes has the most wins in his last four seasons.
One thing we liked about the broadcast: We liked that Jim Nantz, a master of the nugget of time, went inside the Patrick Mahomes-Xavier information that is worth more than every acquisition of the Bills trade.
Chris Myers’ analysis: “While there were a few odds that seemed to favor Kansas City, in the end the Chiefs were the better team in the heat. After the Bills tied, they gave up a field goal, set up a field goal, put the Bills in the trees and ran out the clock.
“Down three, you thought Josh Allen wouldn’t at least find himself in the range of the goal, but the 5 plays were interrupted by steve spagnuolo’s blitz and the officials then relied on mahomes for the first successful pailos.
“James Cook was a credit revelation in this game with 138 yards rushing, but he didn’t touch the ball on Buffalo’s final offensive plays.
“So, it’s back to the drawing board for the Bills. Over the last six seasons they’ve won 78 games (including this page Postseason) – That’s 13 wins. But they’re stuck in a conference tie with the Chiefs (the only team with more wins in 94) and couldn’t get past them to make the Super Bowl. Much like Marv Levy’s Bills going to four consecutive bowls, the current version of the Bills has had a lot of success that I hope will not lose its inability to win a Super Bowl thus far.
“Meanwhile, this Chiefs team is 17-2 and on the cusp of unprecedented success – despite not allowing more than 30 points in any game and only the 11th best point differential in the NFL this season. The 17-3 Eagles are +210 this year, but Kansas City opens the betting as a slight favorite. It could be a nice player’s girlfriend (unless it’s well played and attractive.)
